THE FACE ON THE BARROOM FLOOR – THE POEM, THE PLACE, THE OPERA
The San Francisco Bay Area premiere of the Newport Classic Ltd. film will be shown at the Century 7 Cinema in San Jose, CA. The 90 minute documentary includes a complete performance of Central City’s performance of the opera under the composer’s musical direction, along with interviews with David Del Tredici, Sheldon Harnick, Erie Mills, Julius Rudel, Gunther Schuller, Barbara Day Turner, Frederica Von Stade, and others.

BENEFIT CONCERT FOR DAY WORKERS OF MOUNTAIN VIEW
Henry Mollicone’s new cycle, “Sueños de Esperanza” (Dreams of Hope) will receive its world premiere, sung by soprano Elena Galvan. Proceeds from the concert will go to Day Workers of Mountain View, CA, an organization that assists immigrants.

“ALL GOD’S CHILDREN” PREMIERE IN VANCOUVER, WA
This new work by HM, commissioned by the Vancouver USA Singers and music director Jana Hart, is based upon sacred Latin texts and additional English texts by the composer. Forces include soprano solo, full chorus, and small orchestra. Besides the performances of the work, a showing of the new documentary “The Face on the Barroom Floor, the Poem, the Place, the Opera” will be shown at the historical Kiggins Theater.

HM’s opera THE FACE will be included in a very unique production on an operatic program called ABOUT FACE, which will highlight the effects of affliction. Soprano Heidi Moss, who was stricken with Bell’s Palsy resulting in facial paralysis, will play the role of Madeline/Isabelle; Baritone Eugene Brancoveanu and tenor Jorge Garza will be in the cast with Ms. Moss. HM will be music director and Keith Nealy, director. Composer Kurt Erickson
will have his new work MR. MERRICK performed on the program.

FINAL BENEFIT FOR DOCUMENTARY FILM THE FACE
A gala benefit celebration including a program of vocal music, and some excerpts from the new feature documentary film The Face on the Barroom Floor – The poem, the place, the opera, being produced by NEWPORT CLASSIC, will sponsored by the Orchard Valley Fine Arts Foundation (501 c3 non-profit). $19,000 has already been raised for the film, which will include a full production of THE FACE, filmed at The Central City Opera in July, 2012. Wine and food will be served. The film, which will be released later in the year, will also include interviews by various people in the opera world including Frederica Von Stade, Erie Mills, Maria Spacagna, Sheldon Harnick, Julius Rudel, Gunther Schuller, David Del Tredici, John Moriarty, Robert Darling, and several other professionals.

Concurrent with photographic artist Michael Nye’s striking exhibit, “Hunger and Resilience,” featuring the portraits and voices of the hungry and homeless, the St. James Cathedral Choir and Chamber Orchestra present the Chicago premiere of Beatitude Mass. Concerts with Nancy Wait Kromm and Choir
Soprano Nancy Wait Kromm and the Stone Church Choir of Willow Glen will perform a concert of vocal and choral music by HM, including BEATITUDE MASS. Funds raised will go to organizations that support people living in poverty and homelessness. Ms. Wait Kromm will premiere Songs of the Human Spirit, a new song cycle by HM composed for her, along with performing other HM song cycles for soprano. The choir will perform BEATITUDE MASS with Ms. Wait Kromm as soprano soloist and Leroy Kromm as baritone soloist, along with a few shorter choral pieces. HM will conduct and accompany Ms. Wait Kromm as pianist.

A cantata for soprano and baritone soloists, chorus of mixed voices, and small orchestra, A SONG FOR OUR PLANET has been commissioned by Seattle First Baptist Church (Vicky Thomas, director of choirs) and Plymouth Church, UCC (Douglas Cleveland, music director). MISA DE LOS INMIGRANTES
THE SAN JOSE SYMPHONIC CHOIR under the direction of Leroy Kromm will present this work (for mezzo soprano, choir, narrator, and instrumental ensemble), which recounts the story of a local immigrant family’s arduous journey from Mexico to California. Nova Jimenez will appear as narrator. S.J. Lowens wrote in San Francisco Classical Voice: “The music for the mass takes its rhythmic and melodic sources from Latin-American music, but has the flavor of the original voice that is Henry Mollicone…I can report a spontaneous standing ovation from the approximate 1,000 people that filled the mission for the event. It was a privilege to be present for this world premiere, and I can recommend it to any music lover.”

About Face — An Opera Experience
Festival Opera in Walnut Creek, CA, presents About Face — An Opera Experience, designed to increase awareness of a widespread medical condition, facial paralysis. Centered on a performance of Henry Mollicone’s chamber opera, The Face On the Barroom Floor, it stars soprano Heidi Moss, who lives with one form of facial paralysis, and former Adler Fellows tenor Thomas Glenn and baritone Eugene Brancoveanu. Act one is a new opera pastiche exploring the human dynamics of affliction, acceptance and compassion with a multimedia experience that blends classic opera and creative screen projections to take the audience on a visual journey through an emotional landscape. Beatitude Mass Premiere in Santa Cruz
CADENZA, formerly the Santa Cruz Chamber Orchestra, will perform BEATITUDE MASS by HM under music director Maya Barsacq on their concert “Compassionate heart” with the ARIOSE SINGERS and soloists Rochelle Bard, soprano, and Jason Detwiler, baritone. The composer will be performing as pianist in the orchestra. Proceeds go to the Homeless Shelter of Santa Cruz County.

Beatitude Mass in Saratoga, CA

The combined choirs of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, the San Jose Symphonic Choir, the Monterey Symphony Choir (Leroy Kromm, director), and the Saratoga Symphony (Jason Klein, director) will perform BEATITUDE MASS under the composer’s direction in a concert that will benefit local homeless shelters.
